Look closer. What reads as a single image from across the room dissolves, up close, into thousands of individual marks: a discipline pointillism pioneered over a century ago. Carstens pushes that discipline further. In place of the hand and eye, he builds each piece through algorithm and geometry, letting computation decide where colour falls and how pattern forms. Call it neo-pointillism: the same optical principle, rebuilt for a precision only mathematics can offer.

The result is rendered in pigmented acrylic ink, layered with gloss gel through a pochoir technique of his own making, vinyl standing in for paper to carry the weight. Bold color. Exacting structure. Pattern pulled straight out of randomness.
